Stories
For the Dylan Thomas brief i need all the body copy of the books so that i can try and use it in the posters. So it restricts the amount of authors and stories i can use if i cannot get the body copy for the posters themselves.
I have got a range of links at the moment that have the body copy i want, in the format i need to use them:
WUTHERING HEIGHTS
A TALE OF TWO CITIES
UNDERMILK WOOD
GREAT EXPECTATIONS
LORD OF THE RINGS
THE COLLECTED SHORT STORIES OF ROALD DAHL

Dylan Thomas - Font Investigation
I have been looking at fonts to use with the dylan Thomas brief, working with dates from when the publications are around, the style that relates to the content.

SELLAR
Sellar Development is a privately owned property investment, development and management business based in London and responsible for such high profile projects as The Shard and London Bridge Place. The company approached brand design agency Campbell Hay to develop an identity that would reflect their ongoing partnerships, collaborative process and involvement with the architectural world.
They asked us to redesign and rethink their position within the property development sector. Through discussion with the client it became apparent that it was the partnership with talented teams of professionals and visionaries, that made these projects possible. To reflect this partnership led approach we created the new Sellar logo and graphic device and applied it across a beautiful range of printed stationary and communication.
- Taken from the Campbell Hay website
I am a great believer in simple but truthful identities that show restraint and avoid compounding too much into a single logo or logo-type. Sellar is a great example with a clear logo-type that is constructed with a sans serif simplicity and a wide monospaced execution that balances positive and negative space neatly resolving the company’s involvement with interior and exterior structures. A geometric pattern that blends two and three dimensional qualities furthers this theme but also hints at the wider network Sellar draws from and their collaborative approach to business. Applied as both a printed and embossed surface treatment alongside frosted substrates and a modernistic colour palette (that plays on the idea of light and shadow) delivers a distinctive architectural sensibility across the collaterals.

Dylan Thomas Poems
After the crit i took on the advice that i need to think about incorporating more of Dylan Thomas's poems into this brief, to give more of a rounded overview of Dylan Thomas as a poet, as opposed to just showcasing his well known work. I think the main point is tog et a selection of poems that show the different perspectives that he has written in.
Although a lot of his poems are cynical and can relate to death a lot there are still some gems that are funny and quirky, and its getting a balance between these that i think is important. I don't want to sack of the Under Milk Wood element of the brief, but i think that i need to focus on the poems and get some form of structure in there first before i play around with the book.

Dylan Thomas development
// I have taken on the designs that i think are most appropriate and started to mock them up in in-design. It became clear as i started to mock them up that some would work a lot better than others and from that i will take them on and develop them.
What has been good about the process is that i have come up with other ideas, and different ways of applying the design across deliverables. I dont want it to just be a flat poster.
My more favoured designs are the ones that are clearer, the ones where it is just the statement at the top and then the poem underneath. Things that im lacking within this are getting the poem typed right so that theres no widows etc. Its important that the layout is correct.
I still have a couple of designs i need to work on, but i have established a basis of what i want to do and what i need to avoid.
Dylan Thomas - Moodboards
// I have put together a range of moodboards so that i could get some inspiration for the poster designs for the dylan thomas brief. It is going to be about the print techniques applied to the substrates, and i want it to be as individual as possible. I have found a range of different techniques applied to substrates. I think i want to try and not use the standard A3/A2 format, instead focus on the most appropriate format for the posters. Not 100% sure yet.
After looking through the moodboards i started generating some ideas around the format and techniques that could be used. I need to start generating the layouts for the body copy etc.

Colour Mania
I have bought colour mania, its a really interesting book because i find working with colour in the most appropriate way quite challenging. Theres so many mistakes you can make, all the items i have chosen are used within branding projects, and a lot of them are only two colour. This is something that i need to consider within my work.
