Yearbook - initial sketch layouts

For Monday we all agreed to have some design ideas for the layout. They didn't have to be anything ground breaking, but enough so that when we got together we could pull everyones ideas together and then finalise the layout for the book.

The idea behind my layouts is the coding system to clearly layout the narrative of the book so that it works and is identifiable to the person reading it.
They wanted an abstract style of book, so i have kept that in mind. Whilst using a simple system and simple vector ideas to portray the narrative.

I have done some initial sketches.

I think my 2 favorite are the first and the last. Using the block system to transfer through the book so that it will illustrate the narrative. Using a colour coding system to illustrate the transition between each chapter and each style.

Yearbook Meeting

\\| We had our second year book meeting today, it was really helpful because we outlined the the concepts that we have come up with and got to get a feeling of what they were looking for and why. They decided to go with the first two concepts, the whole idea of a narrative and so the main concept that we are working with now is the idea; the concepts - the production - the final outcomes.

We now just need to have a discussion with the group so that we can get a better feel for what to do, and where to go.

Yearbook Meeting

\\| We had a really productive year book meeting today, managed to get 3 solid concepts together combining both out ideas so that when we go to speak to them on Wednesday they can select from the 3 and then we run from there.
We decided to do 3 different levels of concept; experimental, standard, generic.
This is so that we could have a ground to work from and then we can either pull ideas from each or just run with one.

Our concepts are all outlined above.

The next stage is to put boards together for each and then have them ready for Wednesday.
We have also put together some basic dates that we can work to, and they can work to. Just so we can get the ball rolling.

Yearbook meeting

Following the meeting i emailed Paul with the general idea for the brief and then the instructions of what both of us needed to have done by the next meeting.

I then sent out an email to everyone else to clarify what has been done and when we are all meeting up to discuss ideas and then start working on it.

Yearbook Meeting

Today we had our first meeting with Paul from Printed textiles, both Sam and I went to discuss initial ideas and concepts for the brief and what they wanted.

This talk was really helpful, it showed us what they wanted and what they didn't want. It's really interesting to work alongside tutors and actually discuss with them what they want, it's the first time i have had face to face contact with a client. They were really open to ideas, and i think that this will be both useful and maybe a problem, as we are going to have to take charge and clearly lay out what is going on.

Year Book

Seeing as I'm project manager, i have organised our first meeting with Paul from Printed textiles. We decided that only a couple of us would go so as not to overwhelm him with our amazing creativity!..

I emailed Paul Sunter today, who is the head of Printed textiles, this was in order to set up our initial meeting in order to discuss where to go, what we need to do and how etc.

Year book meeting

Today we got the results of who is working on what yearbook. Unfortunately we didn't get the pitch for the Graphics yearbook, but instead we got the pitch for the printed textiles course. This is exciting because it's something different and apparently the concept i came up with would work across their course because its so spread out. We got paired with Sam, Will Duffy and Paul in order to become one super group, because their concept of taking photos of people working would work well with the processes used in the printed textiles apartment. It's really interesting because it means we are both different but are travelling along the same lines.
We got together to discuss our ideas, and make sure we are happy with where we are going, and i think that as a whole the group will work well. We elected a project managed, which ended up being me. As well as Sam who will be second project manager, in order to make sure that if I'm ill then he can cover and vice versa. The next stage is to get in contact with the course leader to discuss out ideas.

Im really excited, and i think this i going to be an interesting brief to collaborate on.

Yearbook Proposal

Last night i came up with the concept of creating a family tree concept to explore the nature of our graphic design course. I pitched this to my team and they all thought it was a good idea, so we set about developing it and creating themes that would go around it. This was important so that we could break up areas to focus on and areas to go with.
